How to Choose the Perfect Backdrop

I love the first few messages exchanged when getting to know someone. I get to learn a little about you and hear your story, and that is part of the fun for me. The next part is knowing enough about you to see how to best tell your story. No session is cookie-cutter, there is no factory assembly line process to capturing the true essence of you and your family. One of the first topics we tackle is learning what your style is to find a location that best compliments it. At the end of the day, I want to create fine art photography that makes you smile every time you walk past it, remembering the laughter shared on that fine day.

I love to say to my clients, “Think about your happy place, what does it look like? Now let’s go exploring.”

What do you gravitate towards to find peace and a sense of adventure? Do the rolling waves of a beach call out for you on a stressful day, or the pure childlike thrill of exploring the edge of a forest? Whether it is exploring the urban brick streets of a bustling street or the quiet paths of a colorful garden, we are sure to find a place that leaves you feeling whole.

Another great thing is to look around your home to see what style of decor you gravitate towards. Does your wall decor seem modern and clean, woodland, beachy, eclectic? Essentially your portraits will accompany these many items and it may bring a sense of continuity and wholeness to achieve a similar aesthetic. Whatever the answer, we are sure to find the perfect location for your session.

Below are a few popular locations around Florida organized by category. These are by all means not the only ones, these are just a few to get you thinking about which category best suits your style. Next, contact me so we can start tailoring a session as unique as you are.

The Allen Family Session

This beautiful mother is my longest known friend. I have had the honor of watching her through every milestone since we met in 4th grade; but what is more surreal to me is that I am capturing the milestones of her growing family. From her maternity of her first child, his newborn photography, and now his 1-year mark, I have watched him grow. There really isn’t any greater fulfillment for me as a photographer (and as a friend.)

We explored the beautiful Kraft Azalea Park in Winter Park, Florida for a fun fall family session. There is something irresistible about its towering cypress trees. After we took some fun family shots, we broke out the cake and let little J go at it as our shoot turned into a messy but memorable first birthday cake smash. You can check those photographs out here!
